A Year in Review: Welcome 2022 with ArangoDB.

Estimated reading time: 4 minutes

As the new year begins, It’s time to take a step back and reflect on 2021. 2021 was a big year for ArangoDB, and none of it would have been possible without the hard work and dedication of our team, as well as the continuous support from our community. This blog post recaps a few of our favorite moments from the last year and to get excited about what 2022 has in store for ArangoDB.

Series B Funding

2021 ended on a strong note with our announcement in early October that we raised a $27.8 million Series B funding round led by Iris Capital. This milestone is a result of all the hard work and belief that has gone into building our product. It is also a testament to the support and backing that we have from our community. Thanks to our Series B funding, expect to see even more from ArangoDB in 2022, which we are already counting down the days until we are able to share.

Dev Days 2021

Have you ever planned a virtual conference during the first few weeks on the job? That is what our amazing community manager, Cris Miranda, did. ArangoDB Dev Days was our first-ever virtual developer conference that took place at the end of October, and it was a smashing success. Over 450 members of our community registered, including over 100 registrations within the first hour alone. Were you able to make it? Don’t worry, you can access the Dev Days recordings on our website here.

A big thank you to everyone who participated, planned, and ran Dev Days. This event truly would not have been possible without our amazing team here at ArangoDB. Stay tuned for more information with regards to Dev Days 2022 – we already have some amazing plans in-store.

Oasis Continues to Evolve

ArangoDB Oasis, our managed service, continued to make great strides last year. We introduced a host of new features, including metrics, rebalancing shards, Auditlog, and Private network support, but perhaps most exciting is Developer deployments. Announced in June 2021 as a beta feature, Developer deployments consist of a single server on a single node. This type of deployment is ideal a much affordable way for an individual developer to experiment with ArangoDB or learn its features.

Have you given our managed service a spin yet? Sign up for ArangoDB Oasis here and have a free 14-day trial on us. When you start your trial, you get access to a collection of demos and guided tours to help you get started with everything you need to know about Oasis.

Lunch and Learn Sessions

At the beginning of last year, we launched our bi-weekly Graph & Beyond Lunch Break sessions. These ‘lunch and learn‘ sessions covered a variety of topics, such as ArangoML, Graph Analytics, ArangoBnB, and a non-technical overview of ArangoDB.

As this was a collaborative effort between all departments, we managed to release 23 Graph & Beyond Lunch Breaks. Special thank you to Documentation Manager Simran Spiller and Developer Relations Engineer Chris Woodward for creating multiple recordings and being a driving force early on in the lunch and learn recordings.

While we may have concluded the series for 2021, stay tuned for our Graph & Beyond Lunch Break Sessions: The Second Course, which will arrive in early 2022. In the meantime, you can watch the sessions from 2021 here.

Webinars and Community Events

2021 brought back the return of our Community Pioneer Meetups, webinars, and a tremendous presence at conferences. We were fortunate enough to work with a variety of individuals and explore different projects that were run with ArangoDB.

Some of our Webinars and Community Events in 2021 included:

The Avocado Grove Expanded

The ArangoDB grove doubled in 2021, growing from 42 to 90. Want to join Team Avocado? Check out our career page to view our openings for 2022. We can’t wait to continue to expand and welcome new team members and new perspectives here at ArangoDB.

2021 may have been a busy year for ArangoDB, but 2022 is surely going to be one for the books. Thank you again to everyone who made this last year possible, we can’t wait to share everything that we have in store for you.

Stay tuned to see where we go in 2022, and we hope everyone had a terrific holiday season,

Team Avocado 🥑
