Matt Ekstrom is an accomplished enterprise sales leader and joins ArangoDB as Chief Revenue Officer. He brings over 20 years of sales and leadership experience with him and will lead our global sales efforts from San Francisco.
Our new Head of Engineering & Machine Learning is Jörg Schad who brings nearly a decade of experience of researching, designing and developing distributed systems and machine learning pipelines to our team. Read more

We are absolutely thrilled to announce that one of the brightest and most respected minds in open-source software joins ArangoDBs Advisory Council. Hi, Ted and welcome to the ArangoDB family!
For those who don’t know Ted Dunning yet, maybe a quick introduction and the reason why the whole team is so amazed that he supports the project. Ted Dunning is Chief Application Architect at MapR, holds a PhD in computer science and is committer as well as PMC member of the Apache Mahout, Zookeeper and Drill projects. Besides his 25 patents, and even more pending, he mentors multiple well-known Apache projects like Storm, Flink, or DataFu with his broad experiences across industries and technologies. Ted contributes so much to the open-source world and we feel blessed to have him on board at ArangoDB. Read more
How We Wronged Neo4j & PostgreSQL: Update of ArangoDB Benchmark 2018
Recently, we published the latest findings of our Performance Benchmark 2018 including Neo4j, PostgGreSQL, MongoDB, OrientDB and, of course, ArangoDB. We tested bread & butter tasks in a client/server setup for all databases like single read/write and aggregation, but also things like shortest path queries which are a speciality for graph databases. Our goal was and is to demonstrate that a native multi-model database like ArangoDB can at least compete with the leading single model databases on their home turf.
Traditionally, we are transparent with our benchmarks, learned plenty from community feedback and want to keep it that way. Unfortunately, we did something wrong in our latest version and this update will explain what happened and how we fixed it. Read more
NoSQL Performance Benchmark 2018 – MongoDB, PostgreSQL, OrientDB, Neo4j and ArangoDB
ArangoDB, as a native multi-model database, competes with many single-model storage technologies. When we started the ArangoDB project, one of the key design goals was and still is to at least be competitive with the leading single-model vendors on their home turf. Only then does a native multi-model database make sense. To prove that we are meeting our goals and are competitive, we run and publish occasionally an update to the benchmark series. This time we included MongoDB, PostgreSQL (tabular & JSONB), OrientDB and Neo4j.

ArangoDB Finalizes 4.2 Million Euro Investment Led by Target Partners
Funding to accelerate and strengthen the company’s US-based presence
ArangoDB, the company behind one of the fastest growing next generation databases, closed the final tranche of a 4.2 million Euro investment led by Munich-based venture capital firm Target Partners.
The company is developing the open-source NoSQL database ArangoDB, which combines three major data models (graph, key/value, JSON-documents) in one database and with one query language. ArangoDB allows startups and enterprises to speed up innovation cycles, simplify technology stacks and increase on-time and on-budget delivery of software projects. Read more

Important Steps this Year
2016 is about to see its final days and things are calming down, so Frank and I thought about the year that lies behind us. It was a really exciting year for the whole ArangoDB project and for us as founders. In 2016 we saw our team doubling in size, ArangoDB 3 series got launched and we became part of the Target Partners family. Many other great things happened this year and with this post we want to take the chance to say “Thank you” to all our supporters.
For the whole team it was and is super motivating to see that practically the same growth we experienced team-wise happened to the ArangoDB community. Exceeding the 3000 stargazer landmark right before Christmas was indeed a nice present, but it also reminds us that more and more people rely on what we create. Read more
